NJTR 904
Title:  NJTR 904
Description:  On display outside the old train shed of the CNJ Jersey City terminal. This caboose was part of an order by the Erie Lackawanna for ten cabooses to be built by the International Car Company in 1970, this particular car becoming EL C-374. The last cabooses built for the railroad, they would head to the Delaware & Hudson upon the formation of Conrail. C-374 was one of the few the D&H sold to NJ Transit for work train service. Donated to Liberty State Park for display upon retirement, this relic of the rails recalls a time when this bit of urban green space was a sprawling railroad yard, handling hundreds of freight and passengers each and every day.

Remnants of the Past
Title:  Remnants of the Past
Description:  Standing silently along Berckman Street, its grade crossing into a former factory long since removed, is this former CNJ style crossbuck. While the mainline was elevated over street level through this section of Plainfield, behind the camera, many freight customers along the right of way prompted the use of sidings at street level to better serve the industries. Today, there are quite a few industries that call this neighborhood home but the local freight trains of yesterday have mostly vanished from this portion of the former Jersey Central.
