PIZ 2 |
Description: |
One of five units built for the Wabash Railroad in the winter of 1953, this locomotive was originally numbered WAB 130 and also served Norfolk & Western and Norfolk Southern. The Pfizer Corporation acquired the unit from an equipment dealer in 1991 and used it to move cars around their facility in Groton, CT until 2002 when it was acquired for preservation by the museum. It is one of two former Wabash SW-8s to survive in the northeast today, the other, former WAB 132, painted as DL&W 500 at Steamtown in Scranton, PA. |

SF 500 |
Description: |
Stored at the far end of the old DL&W yard is this EMD switcher wearing the colors of one of the old hometown railroads. Never a part of the Lackawanna's diesel fleet, the unit was acquired by the Wabash Railroad from EMD in 1953. Originally WAB 132, it would also work for the Norfolk & Western and Norfolk Southern. Acquired by the Steamtown Foundation in the 1980s as part of a trade with NS for former N&W 1218, the other locomotive in this trade being former NKP 514, it was given Lackawanna paint to fit in with the 1980s Steamtown theme for its operating fleet. |
