The Tri State caboose train with M&E 21 for power arrives in Dover for a day of excursions on the former CNJ Dover & Rockaway branch. The equipment was brought here from Morristown by M&E 18 due to 21's lack of cab signals. The C424 was left at Wharton Junction and will be used later for the journey back to Morristown. |

This privately owned ex Washington Terminal Alco sits in storage next to the old Reading Company freight station on the East Penn Railroad's Quakertown line. Description: |
Sitting at the end of the SRNJ Salem Branch, this Alco has definitely seen better days. Built in 1948 for the Washington Terminal Company, it saw switching duties in Washington Union Station for both WATC and Amtrak until sale to the Tioga Transportation Museum of Flemingville, NY in 1986. The museum became the Tioga Central Railroad a year later to operate freight and passenger service on the ex LV branch out of Owego with 59 seeing brief useage before coming under private ownership and moving to the West Shore Railroad of Mifflinberg, PA in 1989. Changing hands once again, it was moved to the SRNJ in the 1990s. |

CMRR 400 |
Description: |
Our first stop on the way up to Vermont was in Kingston, NY, home of the Catskill Mountain Railroad. Among the many interesting historic pieces stored along the old Ulster & Delaware line through the Catskills was this old Alco RS-1 in the midst of restoration. Built in 1950 for the Wisconsin Central, the unit came to CMRR for the startup of operations in the 1980s. Last run in 1987, it appears that future operation of the locomotive could be a reality due to the recently applied FRA mandated reflective striping applied to the frame. |

CMRR 401 |
Description: |
The Catskill Mountain Railroad's well known Alco RS-1 provided the power on the west end of the train this day. Built in Schenectady in 1950, about 70 miles from this location, for the Illinois Terminal Railroad. The locomotive later migrated to the Green Mountain Railroad of Bellows Falls, VT, joining two other units of its type for a few years before coming to the Catskills region. Now one of two RS-1 units on the property, and the only one that runs, the locomotive was constructed in the same city as the GE switcher on the other end of the train about eight years later. |

Description: |
The regular power for the excursion operations out of Kingston, CMRR 401 awaits the fall foliage season and the many visitors that it brings. Constructed by Alco in 1950 for the Illinois Terminal Railroad, the locomotive would gain its current number upon acquisition by the Green Mountain Railroad of Bellows Falls, VT, where it would work with two other RS-1s on the line between Rutland, VT and North Walpole, NH. It came to the CMRR in 1988 and has been working the east end of the U&D ever since. |

Front end view of the museum's RS-1, originally from the Illinois Terminal Companu. Built by Alco in 1948, the unit first arrived in New England in the 1970s when it was acquired for service on the Green Mountain Railroad, operating the ex-Rutland tracks between Bellows Falls and Rutland, VT. The museum has restored it to represent a New Haven Raioroad locomotive of the same type. The only original New Haven RS-1 that survives in the 21pt century is the former 0670, privately owned on the Central New England Railroad. |
