Description: |
A blast from the past, the Ma & Pa heritage unit remains stored on a siding near the York Railway's yard. Wearing one of the Maryland & Pennsylvania's historic paint schemes, the switcher was acquired by MPA in the bicentennial year from original owner Pittsburgh & Lake Erie. Built in 1952, it is one of two locomotives to showcase this look in York County today, the other being MPA 82, another SW-9 preserved at the Ma & Pa Railroad Preservation Society site at Muddy Creek Forks. |

Springfield Terminal |
Description: |
More history along the side of the hood on this switcher. The most obvious is the lettering for Springfield Terminal, evidence from the days when Guilford attempted to consolidate operations and equipment of their larger railroad companies under the name and operating rules of a former Vermont shortline. Not as easy to spot but still visible under the gray is lettering of the Boston & Maine consistent with the maroon and gold scheme of whe 1950s. |

As train rides are not currently operated at Lenox, former Conrail 9128 has been regulated to display status in the Lenox yard. Built in 1952 as Pennsylvania Railroad 8528, the locomotive also passed through Penn Central and Conrail ownership. It arrived at the museum in 2006 and still wears its faded but fully intact Conrail blue and white, a rarity for locomotives in 2016. |
