UHRX 5019 |
Description: |
A former D&H Alco rests out of service on the northern end of the former D&H Adirondack branch. Privately owned, the locomotive last ran for the Upper Hudson River Railroad, the excursion outfit that operated here before the SNC took over in 2011. The Delaware & Hudson acquired this locomotive for freight operations in 1963. It was one of the last Alcos in service on the D&H in the 1980s and also has served on several Pennsylvania shortlines in recent history, including the Delaware-Lackawanna in Scranton and the Northern Central of New Freedom. It was also leased to the MBTA in Boston for a short time for a track repair project. Hopefully this locomotive can see active service again in the future. |

Built by EMD in 1957, the locomotive also saw service on the Burlington Northern before becoming part of the 1980s MBTA roster. It was in Boston that the Geep acquired its B&M Minuteman look, and is now one of several first generation Geeps in New England that currently wear this historic paint scheme. |
