PPLX 2
An old fireless cooker from the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company stands alone in the empty BM&R yard near the PA 61 overpass. This privately owned locomotive was built by the H.K. Porter Company of Pittsburgh for use at PP&L power plants. Unlike conventional steam locomotives, this one does not require coal or a fire to operate, using steam from another source to charge it up so it can run for several hours. It is one of three fireless steam locomotives to survive today from the electric provider, all three still calling the Keystone State home. Note the large snowplow on the front to help combat those harsh Pennsylvania winters.
