Description: |
Formerly of the US Army, this Alco was purchased from the MTA Staten Island Railway in 2010 by the Upper Hudson River Railroad as a third loco for the line. The Saratoga & Norh Creek Railway, the new operators of the former D&H Adirondack branch, have acquired the Alco from the defunct UHRX and now use it for switching moves at the station in Saratoga Springs. |

The New Kid on the Block |
Description: |
The new Saratoga & North Creek Railway excursion train enters the Amtrak station at Saratoga Springs. This new operation on the former D&H Adirondack branch started operation July 2011, replacing the Upper Hudson River Railroad as designated operator of the Warren County owned line. The Alco switcher, acquired from the defunct UHRX, is used to help with the runaround move due to the lack of a runaround track at the station. |

SNC 821 |
Description: |
This old Alco switcher may have the appearance of those units that once operated this branch many years ago but in reality this locomotive arrived here fairly recently. Built in 1943 for the United States Army, the locomotive was later acquired by New York's MTA and assigned to work train and helper service on the Staten Island Railway. Replaced by new Brookville built diesels in 2010, the unit was purchased by the Upper Hudson River Railroad and powered their excursions for a portion of their final operating season. Transferred to SNC, it was restored to the yellow and black paint scheme of 1940s D&H Alco diesels that were once a common sight on freight trains in this yard. SNC 821 has been used in all sorts of operations on the SNC, including acting as a switcher down at the Saratoga Springs station. |
