Description: |
One of the interesting views while riding the Saybrook Special was this old Alco RS-3 in the Railroad Museum of New England's old yard north of the Old Saybrook wye. Built in 1951 as PRR 8912, it is now quite obvious as to the unit's other owners. One of four RS-3 units in the RMNE collection, this unit is destined to move to the Naugatuck Railroad at some point in the future. According to the RMNE roster, this locomotive will be restored cosmetically to its Penn Central look to represent that railroad's operations around New England. |

View of the front end of the old diesel reveals the almost perfectly preserved PC markings. Although still retaining an Amtrak number, it would seem the markings of the passenger carrier have been painted over under the windows of the cab. |
