BRMX 5
Title:  BRMX 5
Description:  The newest addition to the museum's fleet of historic locos is this Alco product#of 1951. Built for the Birmingham Southern as their 151, it worked at the Alpha Portland plant at Alsen, NY from when BS sold it in the 1970s until 2011 when it was acquired by the museum. It is in very good mechanical condition and requires mostly cosmetic work to get it back in service.

AMTK 140
Title:  AMTK 140
Description:  One of the interesting views while riding the Saybrook Special was this old Alco RS-3 in the Railroad Museum of New England's old yard north of the Old Saybrook wye. Built in 1951 as PRR 8912, it is now quite obvious as to the unit's other owners. One of four RS-3 units in the RMNE collection, this unit is destined to move to the Naugatuck Railroad at some point in the future. According to the RMNE roster, this locomotive will be restored cosmetically to its Penn Central look to represent that railroad's operations around New England.

RDG 485
Title:  RDG 485
Description:  The Reading Railroad Heritage Museum has one of the last remaining Reading Company Alco RS-3 locomotives, built in 1952 at the plant in Schenectady, NY. Originally assigned to the Reading's Rutherford yard near Harrisburg to replace steam, this locomotive worked diligently in freight service before being retired from the railroad's roster in 1973 and sold up north to a company in Montreal, Canada. The unit was acquired by the RCT&HS from a private leasing company in 1993. It last worked as a switcher for Domtar Packaging of Red Rock, Ontario as their number 68. Seen still wearing the faded Domtar paint scheme.

RCTH 485
Title:  RCTH 485
Description:  Former Reading RS3 485 arrived on the railroad in 1952 in an effort by the company to begin the process of replacing coal burning steam locomotives with cleaner and more efficient diesels. The Alco RS3s could be found in both freight and passenger service around the system, the 485 usually assigned to the western end freight operations. Its current paint scheme tells of its later life working in Canada, first for the Roberval & Saguenay and later for an Ontario paper company. It is currently one of five of the thirty three units purchased to survive in the 21st century and one of two in Pennsylvania. We had the opportunity to see sister unit 467 on display at Steamtown the previous weekend.
